The Little Mermaid Swims It's Way To
Seaford High School

Jan. 8, 2016

This Spring, the Broadway adaption of the hit Disney movie The Little Mermaid will swim into Seaford High School. Directed by Kerry Prep and Samantha Gates, the classic story will begin performances on March 4. The show will star Shannon Assenza as Ariel, Christopher Ho as Prince Eric, Lauren DiPreta as Ursula, Daniel Weber as King Triton, and Matthew Nill as Flounder. It features a book by Doug Wright, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater.

The Broadway production of The Little Mermaid debuted at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater in 2008, starring Sierra Boggess, Norm Lewis, and Sean Palmer. It closed on August 30, 2009 after playing for 685 performances and 50 previews.

Based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen, The Little Mermaid tells the story of Ariel, a little mermaid with big dreams of joining the human world.

The production will feature choreography by Samantha Gates, music supervision by Anthony Romeo, and scenic design by Grant Weber.

Gates is no stranger to the Seaford stage, and started choreographing the productions after performing in them all throughout high school. When asked about the show, she said, “I’m excited for The Little Mermaid for many different reasons. This year we have a lot of seniors who have been with us for their entire high school career. This musical has many characters so that each senior was able to receive a role to showcase their talents. Another reason is that theatre brings people together and what better way than with a Disney classic? The auditorium seats will be filled with preschoolers who can’t wait to see their favorite princess come to life, to mothers who remember taking their kids to see the movie in the theaters. Kids young and old will relate to the struggles of not fitting in, all while dancing in their seats to “Under the Sea”.”
Past shows at Seaford High School have included Imagine Oz, 13 the musical, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Rehearsals are currently underway for the production, and they are going swimmingly (no pun intended). The cast is truly enjoying bringing this classic story to life and cannot wait to bring it to the Seaford High School stage in March.

As a cast member in the show, I am thrilled to be a part of this incredible show, and I know it will be one of the best productions Seaford High School has done in the past couple of years. I truly hope people come to the show and bring their families and friends, because this will definitely be a show that is not to be missed by anyone.

Make sure to come see The Little Mermaid March 4th and 5th, and bring the whole family, as all will love it. And, escaping to the theatre always makes for a great night out. Tickets will be going on sale in late February, see Mr. Romeo for details. See you under the sea!
